Street Pulse's Box City is an annual "sleep-out" to raise awareness and generate action toward improving the condition of the homeless. In this event, teams sponsor and decorate a box, and gather as a community to experience a night without a bed.
Check out a video from our previous events:
First, you'll want to register to let us know that you plan to participate. Once you send in your information, we will be in touch with you.
After that, you should try to raise some money. Although your participation alone will go a long way in raising awareness, don't forget that Box City is also a fundraiser. Your job as a participant is to try to get people to sponsor your willingness to give up the comfort of heat and a roof for a night. You can have your sponsors send a check to our office or you can collect the money from them personally and bring it to the event. We will help you with your fundraising efforts by providing you with a personalized request letter after you register.
The fun part comes next. The obvious characteristic of Box City is, well, the boxes.
We strongly encourage you to decorate your box as a way to promote your organization or raise awareness of homelessness. We can provide you with a box or you can construct your own shelter. Either way, you must be finished by 4:00pm in order to participate in judging. We will have celebrity judges to select the most creative box and the box that best raises awareness of homelessness. Also, there will be a "popular vote" in which people vote for the best box by placing donations in bins next to each box.
That night, show your commitment to this important cause by sleeping outside. If you can't sleep outside, be sure to drop by and vote for the best box.
